Youth Program

Our emphasis is on safety first, fun second. Kyushu Ju-Jitsu will provide youth with fitness, a way to learn focus and concentration as well as learning about conflict avoidance through non-violent means. Our goal is to help students gain confidence in themselves and their abilities and boost self esteem.

Our Youth Mission Statement

The Kyushu-Ryu youth mission is to provide a safe, positive, fun martial arts environment where instructors are dedicated to building self-esteem, self-confidence and the self discipline of all the youth who attend while fostering athletics, fitness and wellness.

Youth student punching

A student is successful in the difficult practice of punching through paper.

A trained practitioner knows that he has a better then average chance of defending himself in a violent conflict, therefore, he no longer needs to prove it. To do so means all logic and intelligence has broken down and he has lowered himself to that of an animal.

Youth Curriculum

Bow-in and a few minutes of meditation.
Ten minute warm-up consisting of relay races, obstacle courses or games.
A few minutes of stretching.
Rolls and breakfalls. Ju-Jitsu consists of learning to fall or tumble properly. Slowly encouraging youth not to fear tumbling literally head-over-heels.
Matt work. Learning body mechanics and how to re-direct an attack rather then oppose it. Take downs, throws, sweeps and holds, punching, kicking and joint locks are all part of the system.
Weapons. Our youth practice with Bokken (wooden sword) several times a month. Consisting of techniques used by the Kyushu-ryu samurai.

 Grading Class

Our youth gradings take place December, March and June.

Youth are not graded on the same level as our adults. We have a separate grading system for them.  This allows for more rapid achievement of goals. There are three stripes required before attaining a solid coloured belt. Gradings are $15.00.
